Department Of Social Development Bursary For 2018, The National Department of Social Development (NDSD) is a government entity that is giving talented student and those in needy the opportunity to finish off their studies in fields aligned to the department’s line of work.



Candidates who want to study for a Social Work Degree are encouraged to apply for financial aid so as to undergo studies in the area. Applicants who are already signed up with another bursary are not encouraged to apply since they are already benefiting.

Successful applicants will benefit the following from the bursary programme:



  • Fully paid Tuition
  • Fully paid Prescribed Books
  • Fully paid Registration
  • Fully paid Accommodation, only that as supplied by the University

Worth mentioning is that the bursary programmes at the Department of Social Development are designed for all candidates. But first priority is granted to applicants with a disability, previously disadvantaged backgrounds, and those from youth care facilities. Another requirement is that funding is only intended to candidates who are not benefiting from another bursary and those that are permanent residents of their province hence candidates are advised to apply within their provinces.

Applicants who meet all the necessary requirements will benefit from the programme e.g. those that have been received at an Institute of Higher learning within their province.

Successful applicants will get financial aid for education, skills development and training. This bursary scheme also assists with delivering Employment Equity amongst all South Africans.

  • Occupational Therapy
  • Medical & Public Health Care
  • Mental Health
  • Population Studies
  • Substance Abuse Care
  • Demography
  • School Social Care

Department of social development bursary requirements



All applications must contain the following:

  • Candidates must hold a valid South African ID document
  • Candidates must comply with the requirements as set by the University of application
  • Candidates must provide proof of parents/guardians income
  • Candidates must have successfully completed their Grade 12 year / Matric
  • Candidates must have a minimum of a C symbol combined for Matric
  • Candidates must ensure that the application form is filled in completely, signed and all documentation certified and attached. Candidates must also be willing to enter into a service contract with the Department.

  • Grade 12 Results
  • All and any Academic Records
  • Applicants ID documentation
  • Parents / guardians ID documentation
  • Parents / guardians Proof of Income
  • Proof of acceptance at the University of choice

Before applying for financial aid, applicants should apply for admission at any University and must be accepted to study there within their chosen field. Applicants should finish their studies within the prescribed study period offered on each course.

Applicants who completed their Grade 12 education or those that have just finished may apply. Those that are also studying in any of these areas should also apply. Applications that do not meet all the necessary requirements will be nullified.

There is not online application for the bursary programme. As such, candidates are encouraged to obtain an application from the university within South Africa or download the application form and information from their site online.
