Department Of Mineral Resources Bursary 2017, A bursary is a monetary award made by an institution to individuals or groups of people who cannot afford to pay full fees. In return for the bursary the individual is usually obligated to be employed at the institution for the duration as the bursary. According to The Good Schools Guide, a bursary is “usually for helping out the impoverished but deserving and those fallen on hard times”.

ABOUT THE COMPANY – DEPARTMENT OF MINERAL RESOURCES

The Department of Mineral Resources (DMR) was formed in 2009 and is a department of South Africa’s national government. In fact, the department’s history dates back to the 1890s under the Department of Mining.
The DMR is responsible for overseeing South Africa’s mining industry and mineral resources. They currently employ over 1000 staff members.
Headquartered in Pretoria, the DMR also has regional offices in Cape Town, Johannesburg, Port Elizabeth, Durban, Kimberley, Polokwane, Springbok, Welkom, Mthatha, Klerksdorp and eMalahleni.

ABOUT THE BURSARY PROGRAMME – FIELDS COVERED

The Department of Mineral Resources bursary programme is applicable to female learners from rural areas only, who are studying/ plan to study within the following fields:



  • Chemical Engineering
  • Electrical Engineering (Heavy current)
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Mining Engineering
  • Environmental Science
  • Geology
  • Mine Surveying
  • Rock Blasting

Shortlisted candidates will be contacted by 31 January 2018 at the latest – if you do not receive any feedback, regard your application as unsuccessful.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying (please note that failure to satisfy all the requirements will lead to your application not being considered):



  • South African citizen
  • Female student
  • Completed Matric OR currently in Matric
  • Achieved a level 6 (or higher) for Mathematics and Science Higher Grade,
  • Studying or intend on studying full time within one of the aforementioned fields of study (Undergraduate studies only)
  • From a previously disadvantaged community.
