Department Of Human Settlements Articles

Officials from the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Human Settlements have been working tirelessly in their efforts to fast track the process of issuing of title deeds. In this month (July) alone, title deeds were handed over to people in KwaDukuza, Greytown and Msunduzi.

Today, Mr Mdu Zungu (Chief Operations Officer), Mr Lindani Khoza (Chief Director: Planning and Development) and Mr Elijah Cele (Acting Chief Director: Special Projects) are presiding in an event in Mandeni with the Mayor, Cllr S.B. Zulu, marking the handing over of title deeds to home-owners from Sundumbili, Hlomendlini and Highview Park.

Mr Zungu, in his opening remarks, emphasized that the title deed is worth much more than the paper it is written on and urged the community to educate the youth about the importance of title deeds. He added that “not having wills left by the deceased prolongs the process of issuing title deeds”.

In a one-on-one interview with the NewsFlash team, Mr Khoza stated that “there is a lot of dignity that is restored in people’s lives when they receive title deeds. These title deeds affirm ownership and these houses become more than just a shelter to people. They become homes”.

Mr Cele reiterated this feeling and added “Our appeal to those who have been given title deeds is to take care of these documents and to also take care of their houses. We build houses but people need to make them into homes”.

Tomorrow, officials will be in Ladysmith to hand over title deeds to its jubilant residents.
