Department of Higher Education Learnerships Requirements

Applicants who would like to apply for a learnership with the Department must adhere to all regulations as set by the Department. Applicants must be a South African citizen and apply within the District or Province of their home. Applicants must also provide a proof of residence with their forms and all certified documentation must not be older than three months.



Requirements for applicants are as follow:

  • Candidates must hold a valid ID document
  • All candidates must hold a valid Matric / Grade 12 certificate
  • Candidates must provide all academic transcripts
  • Where applicable, candidates must hold a certificate or degree within field of application

Department of Higher Education learnership applications online if not made possible. Interested individuals may, however, download the Z83 Application form or collect an application at the nearest Department of Higher Education to where you live. This form must be completed and submitted to the Department of Higher Education offices within your District or Province.

The Department receives a great number of applications each year and although they cannot respond to each applicant, all applications are reviewed. The Department will only contact applicants who make the short list. If applicants do not hear from the Department within 60 days after the closing date, they may assume their applications were unsuccessful.
