Department Of Cooperative Governance And Traditional Affairs Kzn Internships, The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Public Works as an ‘employer of choice’ implements the internship programme as a vehicle and opportunity to graduates and students who are directly and indirectly potential employees. The students are commonly called or known as ‘interns’, where they work at designated office (s), which of is in line with the candidates’ scope of work and curriculum for a fixed, limited period. Interns are usually graduates or students placed on internship programme that last for any length of time between one week and 12 months.

The purpose of the Internship Program is to facilitate student-learning opportunities outside the classroom. These experiences provide the opportunity to apply classroom theory to “real world” situations thus enhancing the students’ academic and career goals. Internships offer students a hands-on opportunity to work in their desired field. Students learn how their course of study applies practically and build a valuable experience that makes them stronger candidates for jobs after graduation

The department offers a monetary payment for Internships, which is a form of a stipend. Stipends are typically a fixed amount of money that is paid on a regular basis, in this case monthly. Internships are a classic collegiate rite of passage. An experience is that some institutions do extend full-time job offers to exceptional interns, though this is no guarantee and is the exception rather a norm. Participating through an internship programme could serve a glowing reference, which students can leverage when applying for jobs.
