Department Of Mineral Resources Courses, The MRM programme is a 2 year modular programme developed in close collaboration with industry and is aimed at filling a competency gap in the field of MRM.



Advanced Mineral Resource Management (MRM)

The MRM programme is a 2 year modular programme developed in close collaboration with industry and is aimed at filling a competency gap in the field of MRM.
Delegates who successfully complete the programme will obtain a certificate of competency in “Advanced Mineral Resource Management”.  The programme is also a stepping stone to a postgraduate qualification at the School of Mining Engineering.
Delegates may also register for specific individual modules and will receive a certificate of competence in the module.

MRM Programme requirements

Delegates must successfully complete 9 modules including 3 compulsory modules (MRM 1, MRM 10 & MRM 21). Delegates must begin the programme with MRM 1.



Accreditation

The full programme and the individual modules are accredited at NQF level 6 of the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) and students may apply for CPD points on completion.

Completion time

2 years

Note

Each module will consist of 30 hours of formal lectures presented over 5 days. Each module will have a minimum of a written examination and a written assignment.

  • MRM 6 – Basic Mine Design
  • MRM 7 – Mine Financial Valuation and Optimisation
  • MRM 8 – Mine to Mill Optimisation and Control
  • MRM 9 – Mining Methods
  • MRM 10 – Mathematics for Mineral Resource Management
  • MRM 11 – Business Planning Process
  • MRM 12 – Mine Project Planning and Control
  • MRM 13 – Introduction to MRM Systems and Applications
  • MRM 14 – Introduction to Geostatistical Methods in Mineral Evaluation
  • MRM 15 – Sampling Theory and Methods
  • MRM 16 – Technical and Legal Requirements in Mine Planning
  • MRM 17 – Optimisation and Planning of Open Pit Mines
  • MRM 18 – Optimisation and Planning of Underground Mines
  • MRM 21 – Project Report
