Department of Home Affairs Extends Office Hours

If you have ever stood in line for hours at the Department of Home Affairs, only to be turned away at closing time (you’re not alone), then you will be overjoyed to hear that the Director-General of DHA has announced extended offices hours at DHA offices nationwide.

The new office hours

The new office hours will be from 7:30am to 4:30pm and officials will serve the public from 8am until 4pm during the week, and 8:30am to 12:30pm on Saturday. The new hours are being implemented to enable DHA staff to begin their work day and ensure that all internal systems are in order prior to the opening of the doors to the general public.

How the new system will work

The Director-General added that DHA staff would now work a two-shift system which would see all staff member working 40 hours a week. This new system is intended to optimise efficiency and ensure that there are more staff available to attend to public service delivery demands on a daily basis, thus eradicating the infamous DHA queues…to an extent.  The new office hours are expected to be implemented by the end of March. Please note that South Africa visa application form documents and directives have been removed from the DHA website.
