The mission of the Department of Economic Development (EDD) is to: coordinate the contributions of government departments, state entities, and civil society to effect economic development; improve alignment between economic policies, plans of the state, its agencies, government’s political and economic objectives, and mandate; and promote government’s goal of advancing economic development via the creation of decent work opportunities.





Responsibilities and functions

In order to deliver on its vision of a productive, competitive, and sustainable Victorian economy, the department provides regulation of relevant industries, as well as emergency management functions.
In delivering these functions, the department works with a wide variety of public entities, including public corporations, infrastructure development entities, asset management agencies, regulatory authorities, and specialist boards.
