Department Of Economic Development Polokwane, Polokwane meaning “Place of Safety”, in Northern Sotho also known by its former name Pietersburg, is the capital of the Limpopo province, South Africa. Polokwane is South Africa’s largest urban centre north of Gauteng. It was one of the host cities of the 2010 FIFA World Cup.



The Department’s strategic goals are to improve the service delivery to communities and stakeholders through a skilled, accountable, empowered and integrated Public Service; contribute to the growth of the economy and job creation through targeted interventions; protect and enhance environmental assets and natural resources; and have Limpopo positioned as the preferred tourist destination within the South African Development Community (SADC).
