Department Of Arts And Culture Bloemfontein, Bloemfonteinis the capital city of the province of Free State of South Africa; and, as the judicial capital of the nation, one of South Africa’s three national capitals (the other two being Cape Town, the legislative capital, and Pretoria, the administrative capital) and is the seventh largest city in South Africa. Situated at an altitude of 1,395 m (4,577 ft) above sea level, the city is home to approximately 520,000 residents and forms part of the Mangaung Metropolitan Municipality which has a population of 747,431.





Bloemfontein Sites

Background:
This project is constituted of six smaller project sites, viz.
• Wesleyan Church (Waaihoek)
This church is in Bloemfontein. The Church has been renovated and now waiting for the interior design service provider to install the interpretative material
• Maphikela House
The house is located in Bloemfontein and its renovation is completed.
• Dr. JS Moroka House
This house is located outside Bloemfontein in Thaba Nchu Township. The project is in the initiation phase. Currently, the project team is awaiting approval from Free State Heritage Agency to commence with the renovation work.
• Winnie Mandela House
This house is located in Brandfort. The architectural drawings are waiting for Free State Heritage Agency for approval and then construction can start.
• Rev. Makhabane House
The house is in Seisoville Township in Kroonstad. The project is in its infancy, since negotiations are still going on between the concerned stakeholders.
• Braam Fischer House
This house is in Bloemfontein Westdene suburb area and in its infancy stage, since negotiations are still going on between the concerned stakeholders.

Overview



The mission of the Free State Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation is the creation of an enabling environment for social cohesion and nation-building by establishing structures of civil society to improve levels of governance and administration within sport, arts, culture and recreation; implementing inclusive programmes that enhance and retain Free State talent and capacity within sport, arts, culture and recreation, as well as ensuring development pathways towards healthy lifestyles and excellence; promoting intra and interparticipation and cooperation within all spheres of government; and promoting sport, arts and recreation tourism within and into the Free State province.
The Department’s strategic goals are to render efficient, effective and economic support services by conducting the overall and administrative support of the Department; ensure cultural diversity and the advancement of artistic disciplines into viable industries, and accelerate the transformation of the country’s heritage landscape; ensure access to reading, learning and information through the provision of public library services, and archive and records management services; and support Free State citizens who are and want to become actively involved in sport and recreation.
